Spring in Wicklow

Spring is a time for new growth and new life and there is no better place than the country’s biggest garden Wicklow. Spring is the perfect time for golfing; the sun isn’t too bright or strong and you’re just outside of the busy season meaning no waiting around for tee times. Tulfarris Championship golf course has welcomed many of the world’s greatest players and we’d love to count you in that number.

Powerscourt Gardens and waterfall are very impressive in springtime, when there is enough rain to keep it flowing but not enough to soak you to the skin while you get there. The waterfall towers at 121m, the highest in Ireland, and is surrounded by native Irish woodland. One of Wicklow’s top tourist attractions is nearby.  Powerscourt Estate is a 13th-century country estate noted for its Palladian-style mansion and 47 acres of formal landscaped gardens. It’s a great place for an opulent afternoon tea.

Summer Getaway in Wicklow

Summer is ideal for hiking in Wicklow with the least chance of rain and cold weather (we said low, not none!). Dress well and enjoy a hike along the Wicklow Way, a hike for all seasons. If you’re brave, you can start your walk in Dublin at Marlay Park travelling down through the Wicklow Mountains to Clonegall on the Wicklow/Wexford border. The views from Killiney to the Sugarloaf, the descent towards Knockree with the views of Maulin, Djouce and the beautiful Glencree Valley will make the five-hour hike worth your while.

It’s impossible to compile a list of the top things to do in Wicklow without mentioning Glendalough. One of Wicklow’s most iconic locations, Glendalough or the Valley of the Two Lakes is a must-see for any visitor to the county, especially when the sun shines. It’s a much more relaxed hike than The Wicklow Way and you can enjoy the remains of a monastic city along the way. Highlights include a round tower, numerous medieval stone churches and decorated crosses as well as spectacular views.

Autumn Escapes in Wicklow

As the weather cools down and gets damper, it’s a great opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful indoor attractions in Wicklow. Aside from a ramble through the shops and popping into a local pub for a quick pint in Blessington, there are some fascinating heritage sites to enjoy. Killruddery House and Gardens near Bray has been home to the Brabazon family since 1618. The gardens are among the oldest in Ireland and the estate has been used as a filming location for many famous TV shows like The Tudors and The Count of Monte Cristo.

Russborough House and Gardens are a welcome stop along the Blessington Greenway and a great place to stop and refuel.  Considered one of Ireland’s most beautiful Georgian houses, Russborough offers magnificent views of the Blessington Lakes and Wicklow Mountains. Russborough is also home to renowned art collections, stunning paintings, furnishings, and interiors. The 200-acre estate offers walks and trails, a spectacular children’s playground, and the National Bird of Prey Centre.

Winter Getaway in Wicklow

Winter is the perfect season to enjoy the great INdoors. You don’t need an excuse not to go out into the rain, enjoy a lie-in or spend time in the warmth of a fire. Enjoy a delicious dinner in Brasserie Bar or Fia Rua, enjoying views of the golf course and a couple of our favourite beverages. Order breakfast in bed or a drink in your room after dinner. If you need a change of scenery, head to Kildare Village to start – or finish your Christmas shopping.

If you want to experience one of the most fascinating places in Wicklow, winter in Wicklow Gaol is a great choice. Wicklow Gaol offers visitors a journey through the original prison building while telling the stories of the men, women and children who were imprisoned there. It’s also a chance to learn about the 1798 rebellion, the transportation era, the Famine Years and the Irish War of Independence and Civil War. Make sure to wrap up well as it gets very cold.

Book your stay in Tulfarris any time of the year to enjoy the beauty of Wicklow. You can enjoy our seasonal special offers exclusively when you book on our website.
